Aaron Swift Indicted in Fatal Interstate 70 Work Zone Hit-and-Run
Court records show the 46-year-old was arrested and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide eight months after the Columbus crash.
Eight months after a construction worker was killed in a hit-skip crash, the man who allegedly fled the scene has been arrested and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, according to court records.
Aaron Swift, 46, was indicted Tuesday on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, felony hit-skip and tampering with evidence, according to court filings. Swift was indicted in connection with the Feb. 28 crash, according to broadcaster WBNS.
Jordan Thomas, 25, died early Saturday morning after he was struck when a car drove into a closed construction zone along I-70 West at state Route 315, according to WSYX.
The Columbus Division of Police said a maroon Toyota sedan was traveling west on I-70, approaching State Route 315 around 2 a.m., according to crash records. The driver of the Toyota had entered a construction zone while workers were present, allegedly swerved and hit a worker and a generator, and fled the scene before the construction worker was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:12 a.m., according to police collision reports.
Following the crash, investigators asked anyone with information about the involved vehicle or driver to contact the Accident Investigation Unit or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, according to police statements.
An indictment is a formal accusation by a grand jury, and all criminal charges remain allegations pending court proceedings. Swift is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
