Gahanna Moves to Secure Federal Transit Funds for GoHanna Shuttle
Gahanna is seeking federal Section 5310 mobility grant funding to continue its free shuttle service for older adults and residents with disabilities.
Gahanna City Council is scheduled to vote Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, on introducing and adopting a resolution authorizing an application for federal transit assistance to support the city's GoHanna shuttle service. City records place the resolution authorizing the application on the consent agenda under the Committee of the Whole.
The measure authorizes the city to seek funding through the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission under the Federal Transit Administration's Section 5310 Enhanced Mobility for Older Adults and Individuals with Disabilities Program to continue the municipal shuttle program. Under regional guidelines, the Section 5310 funding application will be open until October 30, 2026, at 5 p.m.

During the committee review, Mayor Laurie Jadwin pledged to City Council that the forthcoming municipal budget will fully fund the GoHanna shuttle regardless of whether federal grant funding is renewed, guaranteeing uninterrupted service for residents.
Senior Director Kevin Schultz presented the pilot program's initial ridership figures, reporting that the shuttle completed just under 850 trips between its June 1 launch and late October 2026. Daily usage averaged nine trips over that initial period and climbed to more than 12 trips per day during September.
The city established the service as a free, ADA-accessible shuttle service designed to help eligible residents get where they need to go safely, conveniently, and independently. Service is open to residents age 65 and older, residents with disabilities, and accompanying caregivers. Under city guidelines, riders may travel anywhere within Gahanna, plus select nearby destinations, including Meijer, OhioHealth emergency and urgent care locations, and Ohio State outpatient facilities in New Albany.
While local riders have inquired about potential regional expansion to hubs such as downtown Columbus and the airport, the administration is prioritizing operational evaluation before considering broader service boundaries. Mayor Jadwin stated that Gahanna plans to complete a full year of operating data before evaluating whether to add a second shuttle vehicle or expand hours and destinations beyond municipal borders.
