ODOT Clears Harrison Road Bridge Closure From Active Work-Zone Feed

The traffic record was removed more than two weeks ahead of schedule, but the overpass has not been confirmed open to traffic.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has delisted the Harrison Road bridge closure over Interstate 70 from its statewide active work-zone feed, clearing the entry on Tuesday, Oct. 13, more than two weeks ahead of its scheduled Oct. 31 conclusion date.

However, the digital removal confirms only that the state cleared the work-zone record from its tracking system, not that the overpass has safely reopened to traffic.

The two-lane bridge on Columbus' West Side has been closed for more than 13 months. Local authorities and ODOT closed the crossing indefinitely after an oversized tractor-trailer struck the underside of the structure on Sept. 8, 2025 feed records show, near the Interstate 670 merge westbound. The collision forced emergency lane closures along I-70 and prompted inspectors to halt all traffic across the overpass.

In ODOT's statewide Work Zone Data Exchange feed, the agency had maintained an active record scheduling the closure through Oct. 31 at 11:59 p.m. EDT scheduled end. While the entry's removal on Oct. 13 eliminates the alert from public navigation feeds, transportation officials have not verified that repairs are complete or that physical barricades have been removed from the bridge deck.

West Side motorists and residents who regularly cross the span continue to be directed to an established local detour route. That route follows Harrison Road, North Hague Avenue, Valleyview Drive, North Highland Avenue, Harper Road, and McKinley Avenue.

Public information regarding the bridge's reconstruction remains limited. The underlying emergency repair contract, state Project Identification (PID) number, and contracted vendor remain unlisted in public capital databases.

An official verification request regarding the physical condition of the overpass and its actual reopening schedule has been directed to ODOT District 6.
