Driver Killed After Pickup Truck Strikes Parked Semi on US 23 Ramp in Hamilton Township

A driver died Thursday evening after a utility pickup truck veered off a highway ramp and slammed into a parked semi-trailer in southern Franklin County, authorities announced.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, along the U.S. Route 23 South entrance ramp from Interstate 270 East in Hamilton Township.
Deputies said a grey 2024 Freightliner tractor with an attached trailer was stopped on the side of the ramp when a white 2018 Chevrolet utility truck headed south on the ramp left the roadway, drove through a ditch and hit the trailer.
The driver of the utility truck suffered fatal injuries and was killed in the collision, investigators reported. Law enforcement officials withheld the victim's identity Thursday night pending the formal notification of family members.
Multiple emergency response agencies from across the Columbus area were dispatched to the interchange, including crews from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Columbus Police, and the Columbus Fire Department.
Sheriff Dallas Baldwin announced that the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is leading the ongoing investigation into the fatal incident. Deputies did not immediately release details regarding potential factors in the crash, and the cause of the vehicle leaving the roadway remains under investigation.
