Columbus police are searching for two hit-and-run drivers who struck and killed a pedestrian on Saturday night, Oct. 10, along Cleveland Avenue in north Columbus and fled the scene without stopping.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, the collision occurred shortly before 10 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Cleveland Avenue at East 16th Avenue in the city's South Linden neighborhood. Investigators reported that an adult pedestrian was walking in the roadway when the victim was struck by two separate vehicles traveling south: first by a white SUV and then by a pickup truck towing a trailer. Both drivers continued southbound and drove off without stopping or rendering aid, police said.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where the pedestrian died. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victim pending notification of relatives.

The fatal crash remains under active investigation by the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit. The collision highlights ongoing concerns along the Cleveland Avenue corridor, which neighborhood residents and city officials have long monitored for traffic hazards. Columbus police have previously cited Cleveland Avenue as one of the most dangerous roads in the city for pedestrians, prompting the city to install crosswalks with more signals and implement safety initiatives to slow traffic and reduce collisions.

Authorities urge anyone who witnessed the crash or noticed vehicles matching the descriptions to call the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit at 614-645-4767. Area residents can also provide anonymous tips to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
