Columbus Council to consider $300,000 design contract for Kimberly Parkway roundabout

The proposed project would replace a two-way stop at Kimberly Parkway North and East with a single-lane roundabout, add shared paths and install lighting.

Columbus City Council is scheduled to vote Monday, Nov. 2, on legislation to overhaul the intersection of Kimberly Parkway North and Kimberly Parkway East, following a first reading on Oct. 26. Under the pending ordinance, Columbus City Council would authorize a $300,000 professional services contract with CHA Consulting Inc. for the Kimberly Parkway North and East intersection project.

The agreement provides resources and technical expertise to perform engineering and survey services to implement the intersection improvements.

The project is designed to replace an existing two-way stop with a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Kimberly Parkway North and Kimberly Parkway East. West of the proposed roundabout, the city plans to install a shared-use path along both sides of Kimberly Parkway North to connect with existing bike lanes. Another shared-use path will be built along the north side of the street east of the roundabout, and existing sidewalks will be replaced as needed to tie into the new layout.

Plans also call for installing street trees and lighting along Kimberly Parkway North from the western edge of the roundabout east to Hamilton Road, along with lighting within the roundabout limits on Kimberly Parkway East.

The Department of Public Service advertised requests for proposals from Aug. 5, 2026, to Sept. 2, 2026, drawing seven responses. All proposals were evaluated when the city's evaluation committee met on Sept. 9, 2026, and CHA Consulting Inc. received the highest score to win the contract.

CHA Consulting Inc. proposed five subcontractors for the design work: Burgess & Niple, Inc.; Surveying and Mapping LLC; Lawhon & Associates, Inc.; 2LMN, Inc.; and S&ME, Inc. of Ohio.

Funding for the contract comes from the city's Streets and Highways Bond Fund. To finance the work, the measure authorizes a $300,000 transfer from a project account for Sancus Boulevard roadway widening improvements to the Kimberly Parkway intersection project.
