Columbus police arrested 30-year-old Brittany M. Stroud on Tuesday, Oct. 27, in Columbus on an outstanding warrant in connection with the fatal fentanyl overdose of her 17-month-old daughter, according to the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office. Stroud was transported to the Pickaway County Jail and booked at 12:14 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, according to jail records.

Stroud will remain in custody pending an initial arraignment scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28, in Circleville Municipal Court, the sheriff announced. Detective Sgt. Robert Dauberman filed charges against Stroud on Oct. 16 for first-degree felony involuntary manslaughter, third-degree felony child endangering, and fifth-degree felony possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies and Scioto Township emergency medical services were sent to the 7800 block of High Street in Orient at 11:14 a.m. on Oct. 13 on a report of a 1-year-old girl not breathing, according to emergency response records. The 17-month-old girl was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:56 a.m., and an autopsy at the Franklin County Coroner’s Office found a fatal amount of fentanyl in her system.

Under a Franklin County court order, the child was supposed to be in the custody of Brittany Stroud’s mother, 52-year-old Tammy M. Stroud, and Brittany Stroud was not permitted to have unsupervised visitation. Tammy Stroud was charged with complicity counts on the same three offenses, turned herself in on Oct. 18, pleaded not guilty, and remains held in the Pickaway County Jail. At a preliminary hearing on Monday, a judge declined to dismiss the complicity charges against Tammy Stroud and reduced her bond to $100,000.

Previously, Pique Media reported that Pickaway County deputies were searching for the mother charged in the toddler's fentanyl death on Oct. 19.

Authorities emphasized that charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
