Police were called out to the corner of North High Street and Buttles Avenue, near the Graduate Hotel, just before 1:30 a.m., according to WSYX ABC 6.

As of Sunday morning, authorities have not publicly released the names or ages of either the victim or the suspect taken into custody. Columbus police have also not disclosed a suspected motive or explained what precipitated the gunfire, including whether the confrontation began inside an area venue or outside on the sidewalk. Specific criminal charges remain pending as investigators process evidence from the scene.
The intersection of North High Street and Buttles Avenue is a prominent focal point in the Short North, situated immediately adjacent to the Graduate Hotel and bordered by numerous dining, nightlife, and retail venues that draw large weekend crowds. Buttles Avenue also serves as a primary east-west pedestrian corridor connecting the Victorian Village neighborhood to High Street's commercial spine.
Late-night safety along the High Street corridor has remained an ongoing priority for Columbus city officials, the Division of Police, and neighborhood business owners following past gun violence and late-night disturbances in the Short North. In response to community concerns, the city and neighborhood leaders have previously introduced enhanced weekend police patrols, mobile lighting towers, adjusted parking rules, and specialized code compliance efforts to improve safety for patrons and residents. Police have not announced any immediate changes to patrol deployments following Sunday's incident.
