Police Chief Greg Jones will retire in November from the New Albany Police Department after 37 years of dedicated service to the community.

New Albany City Council is scheduled to hold a council meeting Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Village Hall, 99 W. Main St.

The meeting agenda includes a proclamation celebrating Police Chief Gregory Jones on his distinguished service with the New Albany Police Department and congratulating him on his retirement.

The agenda also lists an Auditor of State commendation for Chief Gregory Jones to be presented by regional liaison Scott Brown on behalf of Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber.

Jones began working in New Albany as a patrol officer in 1989, when the village encompassed one square mile, had 918 residents, and had no business park.

Jones has served as police chief since 2013.

The city has grown to more than 11,000 residents.

As police chief, Jones oversees services for a New Albany daytime population approaching 25,000, with 16,000 employees in the New Albany International Business Park.

During Chief Jones’ tenure, the department expanded to more than 55 police officers, dispatchers, and professional staff to meet the needs of a growing community.

Under his leadership, the department earned accreditation in 2019 and reaccreditation in 2023 from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, meeting more than 180 policing standards in a three-year process.

“It’s been 37 years with the department, and it’s time to pass the torch to a new chief. I really appreciate all of the support the community and the City have provided me and our team, and I’m grateful for our outstanding staff. The department will be in good hands moving forward,” Jones said in the city news release.

The city has started soliciting applicants for Jones' replacement, with an annual salary of $143,096 to $178,870.
