Land-Grant Brewing Company Takes Over Nocterra Brand and Powell Taproom

Land-Grant Brewing Company has acquired the Nocterra Brewing Company brand and Powell taproom, targeting a late November reopening ahead of renovations in January.

Land-Grant Brewing Company is taking over the Nocterra Brewing Company brand and its Powell taproom.

According to Delaware Source reporting, Land-Grant has acquired the Nocterra Brewing Company brand and will continue brewing Nocterra's beers at its Franklinton production facility. Nocterra announced that the brewery will continue to operate under its own name and brand identity. Nocterra also stated that its Scioto Audubon location is not part of this transition.

According to the release, Land-Grant is targeting a late November reopening for the Powell taproom. Upon reopening, the taproom will transform into a Christmas pop-up featuring festive decorations, themed holiday cocktails served in themed take-home glassware, Christmas Ale and rentable heated igloos in the beer garden. Land-Grant co-founder Adam Benner anticipated the brewery will temporarily close in January to begin an extensive renovation that optimizes the existing footprint and expands usable taproom space. Future plans also include introducing elements of Land-Grant's Wintergarden experience to the property for seasonal activities and year-round gathering.

According to an announcement on Nocterra's website, all existing Nocterra gift cards will be honored upon reopening, with balances already transferred into the system so they are ready to use. Nocterra also announced that it will continue the Order of the Moth community. The brewery is still working through staffing plans for the Powell taproom and plans to share hiring information as plans are finalized.

The announcement follows Nocterra's sudden Aug. 30 closure of both its Powell taproom and Scioto Audubon location. On Sept. 29, Nocterra Brewing Company, LLC submitted permit renewal applications, coinciding with Land-Grant Powell, LLC filing to transfer ownership of liquor permits at 41 Depot St. According to Delaware Source reporting, Land-Grant Powell, LLC's transfer application was canceled, but state liquor officials said the applicant intends to submit a new application under a different name.
