Ohio State and Google Cloud Announce Artificial Intelligence Partnership
The collaboration establishes an Innovation District hub, expands Gemini access, launches a virtual student concierge and introduces athletics analytics.

The Ohio State University and Google Cloud announced a strategic partnership on Sept. 29, 2026, to expand campus technology access, establish an artificial intelligence hub in Columbus and deploy AI tools across academic, operational and athletic programs, according to a joint release from the university and company.
Under the agreement, Ohio State will create an on-campus AI space in its Innovation District to host Google Cloud engineers and research collaborations with Google DeepMind. The partnership will provide campuswide access to Gemini Enterprise and Gemini Notebook through Google for Education, affecting digital tools and academic resources for more than 68,000 enrolled students.
The collaboration focuses on research across core areas including biomedical engineering, earth sciences and the humanities, the release said. University researchers will gain access to more than 200 AI models, AI-optimized supercomputing systems and Google DeepMind platforms, including AlphaFold, Google Earth Engine and the agentic AI tool AlphaEvolve. Ohio State was also selected as part of an initial cohort of R1 research institutions receiving enterprise access to Google's AI research agents to generate and test scientific hypotheses.
For students, the university announced plans to launch a 24/7 virtual assistant powered by Google Cloud's AI to enhance academic advising, registrar services and career pathway planning. The initiative also introduces an exclusive Google Public Sector research ambassador program that will recruit Ohio State students to work alongside Google teams to gain hands-on industry experience.
In athletics, the university announced Project SCARLET, an AI-powered human performance platform custom-built in partnership with the Ohio State Athletics Performance Innovation Team. The system will use predictive models, computer vision and advanced analytics to optimize Buckeye athletes' training, recovery and health across all 36 varsity sports.
Google and Ohio State announced that the collaboration will also modernize university operations by enabling intelligent campus infrastructure and cybersecurity automation while eliminating operational barriers for faculty and staff.
"Ohio State's new partnership with Google unites two powerhouses of innovation to create excellence at scale for our students, faculty and staff and the state we serve," Ohio State President Ravi V. Bellamkonda said in the announcement.
Karen Dahut, chief executive of Google Public Sector, said in the joint release that the initiative equips faculty and researchers directly with advanced scientific models and computing power.
The joint release did not state the contract value, software licensing costs or an implementation timeline for the partnership.
