Columbus City Council is scheduled to convene Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, for its regular meeting in Council Chambers, according to the official meeting docket.
On the agenda is a measure authorizing up to $1,636,520 to bind the municipal insurance program for a term commencing Nov. 1, 2026, and terminating Oct. 31, 2027, according to city council records.
The proposal is listed on the council calendar as Ordinance 2762-2026.
The legislation is assigned to the Economic Development & Small and Minority Business Committee, chaired by Councilmember Nicholas Bankston.
To fund the coverage, the measure authorizes an internal appropriation transfer between object classes within the Department of Development General Fund budget, according to docket records. The Department of Development is led by Director Michael Stevens.
Council docket records show the legislation includes a request to declare an emergency. An emergency designation enables the ordinance to take effect immediately upon passage rather than following the customary 30-day statutory delay, allowing officials to bind insurance contracts prior to the Nov. 1 policy commencement date.
Municipal insurance coverage shields city assets, buildings, and vehicle operations against liability and casualty losses. Securing the policies provides risk management protections that prevent significant operational liabilities from falling directly on city reserves and local taxpayers.
Council meetings take place in Council Chambers at Columbus City Hall in downtown Columbus.
