Dorrian Commons Interim Green Space Plan Reaches Conditions Met Status
Dorrian Commons at South High and East Mound streets will serve as construction staging before being restored as temporary park green space.
The City of Columbus's application to reactivate green space at Dorrian Commons reached 'Conditions Met' status following an Oct. 27 hearing before the Columbus Downtown Commission. The parcel at the southeast corner of South High and East Mound streets was formerly part of Dorrian Commons and closed to accommodate construction of the new courthouse, according to city application records.
Previously, Pique Media reported plans for the interim lawn and staging area on Oct. 6.
According to city application materials, the Dorrian Commons site will first be used as a construction laydown area for the Karnes Building renovation as work shifts to interior renovations of the Karnes Building and 375 S. High Street. Once that work is complete, the site will be temporarily restored as public green space until permanent improvements are undertaken. The proposed site plan calls for grinding tree stumps, removing an existing flagpole and electrical devices, regrading the ground to a flat surface, importing planting mix, and seeding and watering the site to establish a new lawn. Existing perimeter construction fencing is scheduled for removal in spring 2027 after the new lawn is established.
City portal records do not list the specific conditions satisfied for the approval, nor do they provide construction timelines for the staging period or permanent park redevelopment.
