Marysville Advances Coleman's Crossing Roundabout Design Ahead of Fall Milestones

Arcadis prepares right-of-way maps and traffic maintenance plans for the commercial corridor under a $528,100 municipal contract.

MARYSVILLE — The City of Marysville is moving forward with engineering design for a new single-lane roundabout at Coleman’s Crossing Boulevard and the northwest entrance to Walmart, with key right-of-way deliverables due in late November.

The project, approved by the Marysville Board of Control under a $528,100 design contract with Arcadis U.S., Inc., aims to improve traffic operations and safety along one of Union County’s primary commercial corridors. According to municipal records published Tuesday, Oct. 13, Arcadis faces a Nov. 20 deadline to submit right-of-way exhibits to city engineers, followed by right-of-way legal descriptions on Dec. 22.

Commercial Access and Traffic Planning

Maintaining business accessibility along Coleman’s Crossing during construction represents a central priority for city leaders. The surrounding corridor serves heavy retail and restaurant traffic, anchoring major destinations including a Walmart Supercenter and adjacent commercial plazas.

During the Board of Control’s project review, Marysville City Engineer II Connor Devine addressed access concerns raised by City Manager Terry Emery. Devine stated that two-way traffic access is expected to remain open on both sides of Coleman’s Crossing Boulevard throughout construction. However, specific individual parcels will require customized accommodations. Most notably, Panda Express may need a temporary access drive to maintain customer and delivery operations during roadway work.

Arcadis is tasked with developing comprehensive Maintenance of Traffic concepts and detour plans in close coordination with city staff. The consultant's scope of work also includes preparing specific driveway details for the plaza west of Walmart to ensure continuous customer access.

Multi-Year Design Milestones

Marysville selected Arcadis through Ohio's qualification-based selection process after shortlisting five engineering firms in January 2026. City officials noted that Arcadis was uniquely qualified for the assignment having performed the corridor study for the Coleman's Crossing area in 2024.

The project's design schedule extends across multiple years, carrying engineering work into early 2028:

Arcadis will also hold an in-person public meeting featuring visuals and exhibits to engage local stakeholders and business owners before final plans are completed.

Contract Details and Budget Breakdown

The approved $528,100 contract came in below Marysville's $550,000 budget allocation for the project. The agreement includes $410,900 for authorized core design tasks and up to $117,200 for contingent engineering services, which include bidding assistance, utility coordination, and right-of-way acquisition support.

City records indicate project expenses will span three fiscal years: $175,000 in 2026, $340,000 in 2027, and $13,100 in 2028, concluding with construction administration and shop drawing reviews.
