The closure took effect Sept. 8, 2026, barring east-west through traffic in both directions while public works crews and contractors reconstruct the roadway, according to city traffic bulletins. Municipal officials said local access for neighborhood residents and commercial business owners along the corridor will be maintained throughout the construction period.
According to public Board of Control records published Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, the work is moving forward under a $2,475,000 contract awarded to Decker Construction Company. The Marysville Board of Control voted unanimously on May 26, 2026, to approve the contract for the East 5th Street Improvements project, designated by the state as PID 122953.
Decker submitted the lowest base bid at $2,356,797.45 when Marysville opened four competing proposals on May 8, 2026. That base bid came in below the city engineer’s estimate of $2,433,507.62 and the city's $2,500,000 street maintenance budget allocation, according to an engineering bid evaluation memo. Decker’s proposal edged out rival bids from J&J Schlaegel, Inc. ($2,398,778.83), The Ruhlin Company ($2,457,602.31), and Double Z Construction Company ($2,789,456.67).
The Board of Control’s final contract authorization added a 5.02% contingency of $118,202.55 to Decker's base bid to cover potential change orders and unforeseen field conditions. Even with the contingency, the total project commitment remained below the allocated municipal budget.
Outside funding will offset virtually all of the municipal expenditure. According to the city engineering department's financial evaluation, three external grants totaling $2,370,000 will reimburse Marysville for the improvements. The package includes approximately $1,320,000 in Ohio Department of Transportation Large Cities funding, a $550,000 Ohio Public Works Commission grant, and $500,000 from the Central Ohio Rural Planning Organization.
The reconstruction effort combines roadway rebuilding and pedestrian safety additions. City plans specify full-depth asphalt resurfacing, concrete curb replacement, stormwater utility upgrades, and new street lighting. The design also incorporates several traffic-calming features, including curb bump-outs, upgraded curb ramps, crosswalks with pedestrian signals, and a newly constructed boulevard median.
