ODOT and Alan Stone Co. Set Oct. 31 Completion for US 22 Bridge West of Amanda

State transportation records establish an end-of-October contract milestone for the $1.8 million Clear Creek replacement following a targeted mid-October road reopening.

The Ohio Department of Transportation and Chesterhill-based contractor Alan Stone Co., Inc. have established an Oct. 31, 2026, construction completion milestone for the bridge preservation project carrying U.S. Route 22 over Clear Creek in Amanda Township contractor award. State contracting records show the scheduled late-October deadline represents the final operational milestone for replacing the rural Fairfield County crossing project milestones.

ODOT awarded the $1,795,146.40 contract for State Project 254032 to Alan Stone Co. on Dec. 30, 2025, tracking the initiative under Program Identification Number 115691 contract pricing. Formal contract records show preliminary construction began on April 1, 2026, setting the stage for on-site structural replacement that is scheduled to reach overall completion on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026 project milestones.

Contract Budget and Structure Replacement

Regional transportation planning records approved by the Central Ohio Rural Planning Organization show the project involves replacing the existing bridge structure, cataloged as SFN 2300095, with a new bridge structure, cataloged as SFN 2300096 replacement details. The structure spans Clear Creek along Cincinnati-Zanesville Road, approximately 0.45 miles east of the intersection of U.S. 22 and Leist Road, where regional planning documents estimated total project costs at $1,717,794 project estimate.

Fiscal programming adopted in the CORPO 2026–2029 Transportation Improvement Program allocated $1,610,000 in construction funding for fiscal year 2026 construction funding. That total combines $1,224,000 in dedicated bridge preservation funding, $306,000 in state revenue, and $80,000 in state labor costs, along with an additional $40,000 dedicated to right-of-way acquisition across previous and current fiscal schedules construction funding.

Work Zone Closure and Target Reopening

While the overall contract completion milestone extends through Oct. 31, 2026, to allow for equipment removal and final site cleanup, the active roadway closure has severed U.S. 22 since May 26, 2026, when ODOT closed all lanes along the 0.12-mile work zone to begin bridge replacement full closure.

Automated state work zone tracking records currently list a target reopening date of Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, for the roadway reopening target. Broader ODOT public travel advisories continue to project a general reopening window in late fall 2026 agency advisory.

Previously, Pique reported on Sept. 28, 2026, that state work zone records extended the full closure of U.S. Route 22 west of Amanda through mid-October for ongoing bridge replacement work State Extends US 22 Bridge Closure West of Amanda Through Mid-October.

Before the roadway can reopen to traffic ahead of the final Oct. 31 contract milestone, crews must complete wrap-up steps that include final deck work, asphalt approach paving, road striping, and comprehensive safety inspections. State work zone records classify the mid-October target as unverified because concrete curing and asphalt paving remain vulnerable to autumn temperature drops and rainfall agency advisory.

Regional Detour and Commuter Impacts

Until the bridge reopens to through traffic, the closure continues to alter travel patterns across southwestern Fairfield County for daily commuters, school transportation, and agricultural freight haulers traveling between Lancaster and Circleville. ODOT has maintained an official signed detour routing drivers along state highways detour route.

Westbound motorists on U.S. 22 must turn north onto State Route 674, travel east on State Route 188, merge southeast onto U.S. Route 33, and return to U.S. 22, with eastbound traffic directed along the identical highway route in reverse detour route. The state detour adds roughly 10 miles to travel between Amanda and Lancaster, diverting traffic toward the northern bypass and increasing congestion along U.S. 33 during morning and evening rush hours.
